Can I clean the soot myself?

It's risky. Wiping soot with a wet rag or a regular cleaner usually smears it deeper into the surface. Dry-chemical sponges and HEPA vacuums lift it first, then the right cleaner goes on.

How do you get rid of the smoke smell?

We remove the soot that carries the odor, clean the surfaces, then treat the air and the parts of the structure where the smell is trapped.

Is it safe to stay in the house after a small fire?

Check with the fire department first. Soot and smoke residue can irritate the lungs, so keep kids, pets and anyone with asthma out of affected rooms until they're cleaned.

Do you also clean up the water from firefighting?
